If you don’t care about your body where will you live?

More often than not we have an imbalance in our priorities list. We choose to focus on the less important things. Work is important, definitely; it pays our bills! But we bury ourselves in work 24/7 every day and neglect what powers us to move and have energy to do our work: our body.

What’s the point of working so hard to get money then use the same investment to pay for hefty medical bills?

The greatest investment we need is to invest in ourselves; body, mind and soul. Our daily lifestyle matters a lot.

Healthy eating

You are what you eat. You probably have heard that a million times. It may be cliché, but it’s true. However, most people don’t see the correlation of what we eat to our health.

Let’s delve a little bit. Our body is made up of trillions of cells. The cells need adequate nutrients to be healthy and to multiply. Take for example the flowers in your gardens. Do you water them every day with clean water? Or do you use dirty soapy water used to wash utensils? What would happen if you didn’t water them? What would happen if you grow them in clay soil compared to the regular soil that they grow better on?

Our bodies are no different. We need to eat healthy foods that nurture our cells and avoid highly processed foods that burden our bodies with toxic compounds. Cancer, diabetes, and hypertension are all caused by what we eat. Healthy foods like fruits and vegetables nourish our cells from damage, oxidative stress, and inflammation and prevent diseases.

Always remember that whatever you eat either fights disease or causes disease. If you eat healthily and take care of your body, you won’t need to pop pills to cure simple ailments. You won’t need supplements because our food can provide every nutrient that our body requires. Food is fuel for our body. Can a car move without fuel? Hell no! Just as our body without good food is an imminent danger. You can weather illness with food.

Stress and rest

Did you know that stress is the major contributor to lifestyle diseases like heart attack, stroke or hypertension? Doctors say that most people in the hospital are ailing from something deep inside that manifests in the form of illness; stress. Sometimes treatment only covers up the symptoms without addressing the real root of the problem.

Stress worsens our diet habits and our lifestyle choices. Stress lowers your immunity and puts you at risk of diseases. It overworks the body and impairs body functions that would prevent illness. Insulin resistance, inflammation, and hypertension can all be managed when we reduce our stress levels. How do you take care of your body and avoid stress?

While working, only take what you can handle. Learn to balance your work and rest so that the body can be rejuvenated. Take vacations to rest from the stressors in our lives. Have enough sleep every day.

There is no need to skip sleep so that you can work some more only to get admitted to the hospital for a month. That won’t make sense.

Create a balance. Set priorities. Choose to take care of your body. Learn to accept what you can’t control. Focus on what matters. That you are here now, matters. And if you’re still alive, you still have time to achieve your goals. Just take it one step at a time.

Exercise

Do you find time for exercise? Most people complain that they don’t have enough time to fix a workout schedule.

You need to readjust your priorities. That time you spend on social media every day, you can use to take walks, jog or run or go to the gym.

Exercise energizes you and keeps you healthy. You will be more productive and focused. Actually, that’s the only way to be successful in your work. If you skip exercise, you will be drowsy and tired every day.  You need to make smart decisions today.

What do you eat?

Do you exercise every day?

Are you prioritizing work over healthy eating and exercise?

Don’t sacrifice your body so that you achieve your goals faster. You can achieve all that you wanted but not have enough energy to celebrate it.

Think again. Remember that you can always change jobs, but never your body. You only have one body.

If you don’t take care of it, where will you live?
